Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, was hospitalized on May 12, 2025, following a violent altercation at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. Lanez, currently serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion, was reportedly stabbed 14 times by another inmate.
The attack occurred around 7:20 a.m. during morning yard time. Lanez sustained multiple stab wounds to his back, torso, head, and face, leading to the collapse of both lungs. He was immediately transported to a hospital in Bakersfield, where he was placed on a breathing apparatus. As of now, Lanez is breathing on his own and is reported to be in stable condition and in good spirits .
Prison officials have initiated an investigation into the incident, with the Kern County District Attorney’s Office also involved. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and the identity of the assailant has not been disclosed.
Lanez was convicted in December 2022 on three felony charges related to the July 2020 shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and is currently serving his term at the California Correctional Institution
Despite his incarceration, Lanez has remained active in the music industry. In 2025, he released an album titled Peterson, which was recorded while in prison using AI technology. The album debuted at number 25 on the US Billboard 200 chart.
The recent stabbing incident has raised concerns about inmate safety and prison violence. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
