If you are a fan of thought-provoking films, you'll definitely want to check out American Fiction, starring Jeffrey Wright as Thelonious “Monk” Ellison. The 2023 movie is based on the best-selling novel "Erasure" by Percival Everett. American Fiction challenges the common stereotypes surrounding Black individuals and their perceived narratives. Further, the movie delves into the complexities of identity, caring for family, and the struggle against society's narrow expectations for Black people. It is a must-see film that challenges societal norms and leaves a lasting impact on its audience. The movie has been nominated for five Oscars.
While the movie is great, the original soundtrack is superb. The soundtrack earned Laura Karpman an Oscar nomination for Best Music Score.
